Tattoo After Care Instructions

After getting tattooed, it is very important to pay close attention  to how your artist instructs you on how to take care of your new tattoo. Do not listen to your friends. Listen to your artist.

01

Leave the bandage on the tattoo for roughly 2 hours. If you're not going home anytime soon, then leave the bandage on until you arrive at the house. Once you're ready to remove and dispose the bandage, it's very important that you wash your hands with an  antibacterial soap. Do not re-bandage your tattoo.

02

Gently hand wash your tattoo with a non-scented antibacterial soap and luke warm water. I prefer Dial Gold. And just lather the area up with soap, rinse off the tattoo and make sure that there is no ink , blood, or ointment residue present.  Pat the tattoo dry with a clean towel and just let the tattoo breathe for 5 minutes.

03

Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor on your tattoo 3 times per day. You can find Aquaphor in your local CVS, Rite-Aid, Target, Giant Food, etc. in the baby section. If you should put too much ointment on your tattoo, make sure that you thoroughly rub it.  Make sure you wash the tattoo twice a day with a non-scented soap (Dial Gold). It's okay to take showers. Do not soak the tattoo in the water. Remove scented body washes.

04

Your tattoo will begin to get dryer and dryer within the next few days and show signs of pealing. Do not pick at the pealing!!! It may itch a bit. Do not scratch your tattoo!!! Just apply some Aquaphor on your tattoo. After the tattoo completely frees itself from pealing, I suggest using Lubriderm unscented lotion and just lotion your tattoo from this point on. The tattoo will go through shinny phase and applying lotion regularly will get rid of the shine within a matter of days. You shall see that your tattoo is healing up nicely. Your new tattoo should be fully healed within 3 and a half to 4 weeks.

05

Do Not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jump into pools or jacuzzis until the tattoo is fully healed. Do not expose your tattoo to extreme sun light. Do not rub your tattoo with any fragrant soaps or lotions until the tattoo is fully healed. Do not let any of your friends touch your new tattoo and make sure you wash your hands before and after you apply ointment or lotion just to keep your tattoo safe from infection from anything that may be living on your hands.
